NYSSRA Nordic Women’s XC Ski Day’s intent is to gather as many participants as it can for a day of cross country skiing which includes learning, lunch, making new friends, and a raffle. The highlight of the day is learn-to-ski clinics with women instructors; the emphasis being on relaxed, fun learning in a supportive and encouraging environment. All ability, skill, and experience levels are welcome. NYSSRA Nordic hopes to foster a healthy lifestyle through the fun and beauty of being outdoors in the winter on skis.  Please join us for NYSSRA Nordic Women’s Ski day on Saturday January 28th at Brookhaven Winter Park in Greenfield Center, NY.

Women’s XC Ski Day Clinic Descriptions

Beginner Classic: This is for the person who has never cross-country skied, skis only a couple of times per year, or has been skiing for years but has never had a lesson. You will learn the fundamentals of classic skiing: correct body position, use of poles, striding and balancing on one ski, double poling, how to get down a hill safely, downhill turns, and a downhill stop.

Intermediate Classic : This is for the person who skis at least 1 or 2 times per week, can ski comfortably, and feels OK going downhill. You will learn balancing drills so you will be able to glide longer with every stride, how to increase your tempo, and more powerful use of your arms and legs.

Skate: This is for the person who has never skated (but has classic skied) or has tried skating a few times but works hard and goes nowhere. You will learn the basics of skating: correct body position, skating off and then balancing on your gliding ski, correct use of your arms, and timing (when to push and when to glide). For the person who knows how to skate, you will learn more about the 3 techniques used in Skating ( V1, V2, and V2 alternate) and improve your technique.

Guided Classic Tour: For those not looking for instruction who want to explore the surrounding trails on classic skis with an experienced local ski guide. A chance to ski with friends and make new ones.  Offered in the afternoon.

Guided Skate Tour: For those not looking for instruction who want to explore the surrounding trails on skate skis with an experienced local ski guide. A chance to ski with friends and make new ones.  Offered in the afternoon.
