First off check out skireg for next weekends Great big Winona Forest Tourathon

For a shorter race, try : Garnet Hill winter fest, or Polar bear citizen series, and Shen nordic is having their winterfest on the 6th.

It is a perfect time to race or have a winter fest. Plenty of snow, more on the way, and temps are creeping up just enough to keep it comfortable.

Last weekend’s racing was competitive and cold. Points tabulation is complete at this time. Scott Brown is running away with the series so far. It will take quite a charge to get him out of his top spot.

Racers skied a Pursuit in Glenville (won By Matt Torniainen, and Jessica Northan. Racers were happy for the natural snow, and a little less satisfied with that cold weather they had wished for when it finally arrived {Organizers finished preparations at a balmy 2degrees Fahrenheit}.

The Saturday race was shortened to 8KM, and hills were reduced to keep skiers and trackset protected in the woods from brisk gusts carying cold fine snow. There was a silver lining: racers could return to their warm vehicles without waiting in the cold around the podium.

-The tracks stayed firm, under cold blue skies.

Sunday was slightly warmer, and slightly longer, as the regular front yard hills came back into play. Course distance was dialed up to 9.4Km. Newcomer Erin Smith took the top spot for the women’s field- Nice work.
