Report From Bob Witkowski The holiday camp has been canceled read more

I regret to report that the skiing conditions at Bristol Mountain Summit XC are insufficient to support us holding the RXCSF Holiday Camp starting tomorrow as planned.  Coach Bill and I just returned from Bristol and found significant bare spots even on the snowmaking loop, with ice and bare spots also on the Hale Bop trail that we use for drills and sprints.  There is no snow at all outside of the snowmaking areas.  The access road is also in poor shape with deep mud and the drop-off area is under water.  We cannot imagine being able to provide a good skiing experience there tomorrow morning.  We advised the Bristol personnel that the XC trail should be closed as it is not safe for skiing with the bare and washout spots.

For GVBKYS families, we will distribute the Camp T-shirts at a future practice session and apply any un-used program funds to the Festival in late February.

For guests that pre-registered, we can either refund your fees (checks not cashed yet) or apply them to our Festival and give you camp t-shirts too at that time.  Let me know.

We did receive an offer from Salmon Hills to relocate the camp there.  With the impossible logistics involved with getting 20-30 U13 kids and parents to Redfield for tomorrow morning, we decided to not take that approach.  However, after consulting with Hans the owner of Salmon Hills, our family has decided to ski at SH on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week with new snow20expected on top of the two-foot base.  We invite all GVBKYS families to join us, as well as families from other programs.  We will be on-snow at 10:30am on Tuesday and will plan any activities then depending on who is able to join us.  We plan to stay in Pulaski at the Super 8 but don’t yet have reservations and may decide to stay at SH if space is available.  Please contact me if you plan to ski with us on either day or need additional information regarding skiing at SH.

Apologies again to all…but we can’t control the weather…at least not yet!

    Bob.

I am sorry you did not have enough snow for your camp. Perhaps you better understand now how I felt when I hosted the Bill Koch Festival and it rained the day before the event. Think Snow!!
