The third Junior National Qualifier weekend January 21-22 courtesy of NYSEF and combined with SLU’s Carnival at Mt. Van Hoevenberg brought out plenty of racers – Junior levels through Senior and Masters. Good snow cover over the Ladies 5K Inner & Outer Loop courses featured the usual challenging climbs.
Long-time NYSSRA racer Carly Wynn won the Senior women’s race over SLU’s star U20 racer Lucy Hochschartner. Take a look at the weekend’s results from BART Timing on NYSEF’s website HERE.
At Saturday’s biathlon scene on Tug Hill, Syracuse Biathlon hosted the fourth “scoot and shoot” of the season, a sprint race. Read Super Turnout at Osceola!! with results.
As for upcoming January 28-29, organizers are hoping an early week Noreaster will deliver conditions in the right places for scheduled races. Fingers and snow shovels are crossed that they can “stay on track” for classic races on Saturday — Shenendehowa Classic + BKYSL races at Saratoga Biathlon, Day, NY and Charles Lamendola Classic at Trenton Fish & Game Club presented by Wolverine Ski Club in Holland Patent, NY. Ski orienteerers will head to EMPO’s Pineridge XC Ski & Snowshoe-O event.
On Sunday, the Great Sacandaga Freestyle Mini-Marathon at Saratoga Biathlon is the season’s first long race for those antsy racers tuning up for upcoming ski marathons. Both Shen Classic and Great Sacandaga Mini-Marathon are part of earning points for the Wilkinson Cup. As always, watch for race status updates on this website and event organizer club websites.
Lastly, a reminder about registration deadlines for 2017 Empire State Winter Games events:
