David Ross Leach, born Aug. 24, 1952 in Watertown, passed away April 16 while enjoying an Adirondack hike.
He was raised in Old Forge and attended college at the University of Wyoming and received a bachelor’s in Physical Education.
In 1975, David traveled to Australia to teach and met Lesley Andrews, whom he married on Dec. 10, 1977. Together, they returned to Old Forge to live and direct Adirondack Woodcraft Camp.
Soon thereafter, David began coaching, and later teaching at, the Town of Webb schools. He later became the Athletic Director.
Through Woodcraft Camps and the Town of Webb schools, David devoted his life to serving children and the community.
He is survived by Lesley, his wife of 37 years; his siblings, Judy Wengert, John Leach and Tim Leach Sr.; and his two daughters, Berkley Baldwin and Taylor Leach.
David was predeceased by his parents Jack and Dorothy Leach and his nephew Jay Leach.
Services are scheduled for 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, at Niccolls Memorial Church. Flowers may be sent to Niccolls Memorial Church and contributions may be sent to the Forever Woodcraft Foundation that provides financial support for families sending their children to camp at Adirondack Woodcraft Camps, Forever Woodcraft, 285 Woodcraft Rd., Old Forge, NY 13420.
