Things are looking brighter! (and by brighter I mean frigid cold temps, chance of snow and RACING on the calendar) Check out all the great news about the next couple weeks of January NYSSRA racing….
1) January 10th – HURT Mega Relay at Garnet Hill is ON! The base has survived….a few inches of snow have freshened things a little and the 6 hour team relay event has some great prize packs (craft brews, VT maple treats, baked goods!). 2)January 11th – ROCHESTER JNQ is ON at Bristol Mountain. This is an JNQ for junior skiers and an Open/Masters NYSSRA points series race. The race is a 5K for U16 and a 10K for U18 and up. **Additional JNQ update – The Polar Bear Ski club will reschedule one of their cancelled JNQ races to Feb. 1st in Old Forge. This will also be the rescheduled Wilkinson Cup Series Race that was previously cancelled. A skireg link will be provided for this new date very soon.
3)January 17th – Glens Falls Freestyle will take place at the improved Cole’s Woods Trail System. Through the continuing support of NYSSRA members and the greater Glens Falls community, work continues to create a top-notch regional ski trail system in Glens Falls. 4) January 18th – If you love the experience of a freestyle race in Cole’s Woods on Saturday, come back Sunday for a 15K Classic race on Sunday! The 2015 HURT-athon will feature a seeded interval start race where you and your closest competition can duel it out on the double tracks of Cole’s Woods. 5) January 18th – If you are looking to be in Dryden, NY be sure you sign up for the Cayuga Nordic Classic race at Hammond Hill State Forest. This will be a great race for all ages! Be sure to register soon! https://www.skireg.com/cayuga-nordic-classic
If you are looking to compete in BIATHLON or SKI-ORIENTEERING there are some great mid-January events. Both Byrncliff and Mendon Ponds are hosting Ski-O events in Western, NY and keep an eye out for details on the Syracuse Biathlon event in the works for January 17th.
