Thanks to the officials, volunteers and everyone who participated in the 2014 ESWG TourNADO. What a great event! This three day, three race affair tested skiers in various distances and techniques and the snow and venues were in great shape.
Skiers who competed in all three events had their NYSSRA Points added together to determine overall TourNADO age-class victors. The ESWG TourNADO was also part of the NYSSRA Points Series, the NYSSRA Club Championship Series and part of the Wilkinson Cup Series. Tremendous points were on the line throughout the entire weekend. Racing continues next weekend with the Great Sacandaga Mini-Marathon on Saturday and the Shen Classic on Sunday. The following weekend (2/22-23) features the Cookie Clash at Dewey Mt, the Winona Forest Tourathon and the Poronkusema Pursuit. The Final Stop on the Wilkinson Cup Circuit will take place back at Mt Van Hoevenberg during the NYSSRA Championships March 1-2. There is still a tremendous amount of racing to be had in NY State!
Jackie Garso (Saranac Lake Nordic Ski Club) won the U16F class and was the overall Junior Girls’ ESWG TourNADO champion. Jackie finished 1st in the Junior Girls’ Sprint, 1st in the freestyle race and 2nd overall in the classic event.
Scott Shultz (NYSEF) won the U14M class, finishing 2nd overall in the Jr Boys’ prologue, 1st in the Freestyle race and 2nd in the classic finale.
Rosanne Van Dorn won the womens’ TourNADO overall with a 4th place in the Womens’ prologue sprint, a strong 1st overall in the 20 km Freestyle race, and held on with a 5th place in the 7.5 km classic race on Sunday.
MatthewTorniainen (Adirondack Vauhti) won the men’s overall TourNADO with a blistering 2nd overall in the men’s prologue, followed by another 2nd overall in the men’s 20 km Freestyle and finishing up with the 3rd fastest time of the day in the 7.5 km classic race.
