{"id":36489,"date":"2015-03-02T20:27:27","date_gmt":"2015-03-03T01:27:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nyssranordic.org\/?p=36489"},"modified":"2015-03-02T20:27:27","modified_gmt":"2015-03-03T01:27:27","slug":"all-down-to-champs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nyssranordic.org\/?p=36489","title":{"rendered":"All Down to Champs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a season of epic snow and quality racing around the NYSSRA club scene the official race season gets ready to wrap up with one big weekend of racing in Lake Placid. \u00a0The NYSSRA Championship weekend is ready to go and this year there is truly a race for everyone and the club points series has <a href=\"http:\/\/nyssranordic.org\/clubs\/club-points-2015\/\">never been tighter<\/a>. \u00a0There is still time to register so visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skireg.com\/nyssrachamps\">this link and register by Thursday, March 5th<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a breakdown of the events being offered and the course maps for the weekend. \u00a0We are looking forward to seeing everyone in Lake Placid and celebrating the end of a great points series with our end-of-year potluck. \u00a0HURT nordic is hosting the weekend and looking to make it better than ever.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NYSSRA Championship Weekend<br \/>\nHosted by the Hudson United Racing Team March 7-8, 2015<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">&#8211;<strong>Saturday, Mar. 7th (morning)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>8:30 bib pickup, \u00a09:00am zero,\u00a0<em>10:00 am start Individual Biathlon Sprint Biathlon Championship<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>-Mt. Van Hoevenberg biathlon side ski trails. Registration is in waxing building<br \/>\n-Registration fee: $25.00 (includes a ticket to the post championship celebration on March 8th)<br \/>\n-The age group divisions of our biathlon championship have two different race distances: 7.5K and 10K depending.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skireg.com\/VirtualImages\/promoter\/\/206\/Picture%202.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"147\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skireg.com\/VirtualImages\/promoter\/\/206\/Picture%203.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"140\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">&#8211;<strong>Saturday, Mar. 7th<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<em>12:30pm Ski Orienteering Championships Day #1<\/em><\/p>\n<p>-This race will<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>be held at Mt. VanHoevenberg.\u00a0\u00a0Biathlon Building (first complex on your right as you drive in from Rte 73)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">&#8211;<strong>Saturday, March 7th<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>(afternoon)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>1:00 pm Club Championship Relay race. This is a fun community-oriented competition designed to bring together athletes from all NYSSRA disciplines.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Mt. Van Hoevenberg biathlon side trails. This race will be 6 x 2K Loop<\/p>\n<p>The relay will be 6 legs and you can sign in with a team of <strong>2 or 3 skiers<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1st loop:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0classic leg, \u00a0<strong>2nd loop:<\/strong>\u00a0classic leg, \u00a0<strong>3rd loop:<\/strong>\u00a0skate leg, \u00a0<strong>4th loop:\u00a0<\/strong>skate leg, \u00a0<strong>5th leg:<\/strong>skate leg with ski-o component,\u00a0<strong>6th leg:<\/strong>\u00a0skate leg with\u00a0biathlon stop and corresponding penalty loops.<\/p>\n<p>The member of your relay team who is designated to ski the 5th leg of the relay will be given a ski-o punch card prior to the start of the race. \u00a0They will be required to stop at a flag location\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">along the race loop\u00a0<\/span>and punch their card prior to tagging off to the final leg. \u00a0This is designed to mimic the actions taken in ski-o racing.<\/p>\n<p>If your relay team of 2, 3 has a biathlete on it, that person will ski the final leg with their rifle, enter the range, shoot 5 shots prone and ski the corresponding penalty loops. \u00a0Once they complete the penalty loops they will cross the finish line and clock their final relay time. <strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0There will be a safety and handling course held one hour before the start of the race. \u00a0All 5 shots will be fired prone at standing (large size) targets. \u00a0There will be a few loaner biathlon rifles on hand for newbies and \u00a0to try your hand at shooting. You will ski with a weighted bag, exchange it in the range for a rifle, shoot, pick up your bag and ski the appropriate penalty loops.\u00a0<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perhaps you are part of a ski club that does not have a\u00a0someone who wants to shoot?\u00a0Don&#8217;t worry about it! Make a relay team and come out and compete. \u00a0Your team of 2, 3 will be required to have your final skier ski the last skate leg with a backpack that weighs more than 7.7 lbs (the weight of a biathlon rifle). \u00a0Teams should bring their own weighted backpack and weigh-in will take place during the safety course. When your final skier skis to the range they will ski through the range \u00a0and ski\u00a0<strong>6\u00a0<\/strong>penalty loops prior to crossing the finish line. \u00a0So there is no excuse! \u00a0Come out with your teammates, make a relay team and come out and ski!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skireg.com\/VirtualImages\/promoter\/206\/nyssrarelay%202%20k.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"293\" height=\"145\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">-Club scoring note: Each relay (mens, womens, mixed) will be scored separately based on place using our standard 20, 16, 13, 11, 9, 7, 5, 3, 2, 1 model.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">-Each Club will have only one team that scores, other teams from a club will displace but not score.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">-Each Club will get one bonus point for each individual that races.<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>-Sunday, March 8th (morning)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>9:00 am NYSSRA Championship Individual Championship XC Race<\/em>. THIS WILL BE A &#8220;CLASSIC&#8221; RACE.<\/p>\n<p>Mt. Van Hoevenberg XC trails. This will be on a looped course that we will ski 3 times. Competitors will be allowed to switch skis once as they pass in the stadium, if they choose. A location will be designated along the race course, in the stadium, for those athletes that wish to exercise this option.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skireg.com\/VirtualImages\/promoter\/206\/Champsxc.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"273\" height=\"249\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">&#8211;<strong>Sunday, March 8th<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>10:00am NYSSRA Championship Ski-O event day #2<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Sunday, March 8<\/span>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0The Visitors Interpretive Center (VIC) at Paul Smiths College (1 mile north of junction of Rts 30 &amp; 86, approx. 10 miles north-west of Saranac Lake).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">&#8211;<strong>Sunday, March 8th<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>(afternoon)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>11:30am NYSSRA Try-It 5K<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Finished with the xc championship race and want to do your cool down for a good cause? Grab the whole family and put your skis on for a fun, family ski to raise money for Alzheimer&#8217;s research! \u00a0You can sign up now, or even wait until last minunte to register. \u00a0Day-of registration will be available for this Try-It race!<\/p>\n<p><strong>This 5K loop will be held on the BIATHLON SIDE XC trails<\/strong>. This will be a 5K classic ski for our NYSSRA members new to nordic ski racing. We have partnered with the Alzheimer&#8217;s Association this year and are encouraging touring skiers, families and skiers of all ages to join us for a fun, healthy Nordic ski event. We would want to hold this on a non-looped less challenging course and it would be a mass-start ski. You are welcome to skate or classic. ALL \u00a0Proceeds from this 5K ski will be donated to the Alzheimer&#8217;s Association of Central NY on behalf of NYSSRA Nordic. You can register for this race at the venue!<br \/>\n12:30pm &#8211;\u00a0<strong>NYSSRA CHAMPIONSHIP AWARDS PARTY!!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When these last two events culminate we would like to have all our skiers gather together in the XC stadium Lodge for all-season awards, Wilkinson Cup awards, race awards and a festive get-together.
