The first week of the New Year brings continued frigid temperatures for training and racing. Recent powdery snow falls have remained just that – cold powder. Relatively easy to pick glide and kick waxes. But serous racers need to be smart about training in single-digit conditions by choosing a sensible time to go out, the right number of clothing layers and skiing with a buddy that can say “hey, your nose is turning white with frost bite.”

Also, you’ll need to watch the weather forecasts and for status updates on the January 6-7 weekend of XC ski racing at Gore Mountain Ski Bowl, North Creek, NY 12853 presented by Hudson United Racing Team.

Saturday, 5K Classic – Queensbury Nordic Invitational high school race, JNQ/EHSC/U16 qualifier and 7K Classic for Open/Masters. It is the first of the five races in this season’s NYSSRA Nordic WILKINSON CUP SERIES.

Sunday, 5K Skate U16/U18 JNQ and 10K Skate Open/Masters men and women. HURT BKYSL races (under 14 years old) will take place after the JNQ race followed by a Nordic-Cross Event.

For details, see Upcoming Events (calendar at right) and the event specific SkiReg online registration pages.
