Conditions were just perfect for the 2nd annual GHN-ADK Vauhti Skiathoon at Saratoga. an inch of fresh snow fell over some very wet snow Saturday. An overnight dip below zero was just what mother nature needed to make perfect crust. Master groomer and Olympian Curt Schreiner worked it into rock solid tracks with amazing glide. Far faster than typical blue hardwax conditions despite single digit temps. Kick was firm and the trail wasn’t icy.

The flat classic course followed by a hilly skate course tempted some skiers to opt for double pole skis. However the podium soon filled up with hardcore classic skiers (Katrin Schreiner, Emily Cromie, and Brook Maliszewski for the women, Erik Schreiner, Eric Seyse, and Matt Torneinan for the men). The Tracks were so firm and fast that double poling on hardwax was negligibly slower than on glidewax, while striding and double poling with kick was noticeably quicker than straight double poling.

Detailed results with lap times can be found in the NYSSRA results section
