The Glenville Hills were alive in the Adirondacks on Saturday at Saratoga Biathlon Club (Day, NY) as Glenville Hills Nordic & ADK Vauhti presented their 10K Skiathlon. Dry 28 degree snow at the 10 am mass start provided ideal course conditions for the 5K classic track followed by the 5K skate.

Classic technique skiathletes assemble for the mass start of the GHN-ADK Vauhti Skiathlon.

Anyone who’s had a close finish in a skiathlon event can wonder if they could have switched over their ski equipment more efficiently in the transition zone. This thought is suggested by the close times of the overall Men’s top finish times: 1st Chris Yarsevich 0:25:48, 2nd Matthew Torniainen 0:25:50, 3rd Eric Seyse 0:26:17 (Especially based on their near tie entering the transition zone). A similar situation with the overall Women’s top times: 1st Katrin Schreiner 033:.04, 2nd Madison Relyea 33:48, 3rd Briana Fitzgerald 34:55. See the complete Glenville Hills Skiathlon results.

Bill Koch Racers had to ski their age- 6 year old Anna Yarsevich had her work cut out for her needing to cover 3x the distance of her closest competitor and eventual 2nd place finisher Zara Seyse- before claiming her Medal. Although HURT racers from the Yarsevich Family trounced GHN-ADK Vauhti racers in their respective races, GHN-ADK Vauhti narrowly won the day with 226 points total. Saratoga Biathlon used home field advantage to tie for second with HURT (207 points each).

Skiathlon M5 Class winners: Darrell Rikert left (Greenfield Center) (033:05) and Patrick Jansen right (Scotia) 0:31:22 display their place medals made and engraved by GHN handcrafters using sustainable lilac wood.

Biathlon action in the Northern Adirondacks featured NorAm Cup #5 at Mt. Van Hoevenberg, Lake Placid, NY. See the results of Saturday’s Biathlon Sprint and Sunday’s Biathlon Pursuit.
